Raised
in the paper-mill country of northern Pennsylvania and upstate
New York, Stephen is almost as tough as his character, Trendar,
which he modeled on the mythological figure of Kali. However,
Stephen's nail-hard exterior is belied by his heart of gold
and vast galaxy of loyal friends. He was instrumental in
the
resurgence of the San Francisco art/club scene, but kept
in touch with his Appalachian roots, as was evident by his
performance piece "White Trash Catterwaulin'",
a tribute to the mournful folk tunes of that region. Unfortunately,
we lost this beautiful talent to AIDS in 1995. His candle
blew out at 34 years.
